Color swap

I am no DIY goddess but after hanging around Mel, the idea of DIY is starting to rub off. I am finding things in my closet that I hardly use and thinking with a slight tweek they could become new again.

In February’s issue of Lucky Magazine I saw an article about dyeing clothing and they included handbags which I had no idea this was even possible! These two bags came to mind. They sit in my closet barely used and I always thought if they were another color, I’d use them all the time.

I immediately ordered the leather dye and gave it a shot….I am totally in love!! Each color cost me $6.99 and I have 2 completely new handbags!! Freaking Brilliant!

BEFORE:

Bag – Hammitt Los Angeles

Clutch – Vintage (found on ebay years ago)

AFTER:

Disclaimer: This is super messy and gloves are necessary if you don’t want to destroy your mani. I learned this the hard way! Also good to note, it takes several coats (transation: several hours) to get the color perfect.

I so loved this….I have so many bags that I don't use simply because I have too many black or brown bags. I never knew you could dye leather.

both bags look great esp the clutch.

The bags turned out fantastic. I remember reading that article, but I never would have had the courage to try it on my purses.

Between you and Mel I think I am going to start DIY-ing, as well. It never interested me before; but I so love seeing the things that the two of you have made!! :)

oh, yes, there is so much your can do it yourself. bust sometimes people (myself included) have no time to do it or it's just more easy to find something "ready"!

but DIYing it's just pure fun!

Yes I agree, it's much easier to just grab something that is already the way you want it, but I am learning that DIY is great when you have something you love and aren't ready to part with it but don't use it. If you make a little change than it can be new again! (definitely a rainy day project!) :)
