As you can see by this outfit my obsession with minimalism and simplicity continues. I got these ankle skinnies at F21 for 10.50! I am not one to usually buy cheap denim, (shoes, bags and denim are usually my only big ticket splurges) but I saw these on display and thought, “10.50? I wonder how they fit?” 10 minutes later I was at the register with not one, but two pairs. They are light weight so perfect for going into spring, fit great and did I mention only 10.50?! ;)

This is fine, however when you have other errands to run in the process and it’s noon, people look at you funny when you are dressed like that. So to try to play this down a bit I threw on a black tee, girly jewelry and a plaid flannel. I am not a big plaid person but this yellow and white print is so light it’s really easy to wear.

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about minimalism. Perhaps it’s the new year bringing that sense of purging what’s unnecessary or maybe it’s just laziness. Upon reflection, it’s as if bigger, brighter, bolder  is better, which is definitely not always the case. I’ve been inspired by European fashion for such a long time and this video from Carloline’s Mode is a perfect example of European minimalism.  It’s a reminder that fashion doesn’t need to be complicated.

I tend to be a creature of routine and structure so much so that I find it hard to function when my routine is interrupted. Just as I was getting a handle on life w/o boy (aka: filling my life with so many things that I have no time to think about him at war) he returns and I have to re-learn how to have life WITH boy. Now I am figuring out how to make room for him. It’s not as easy as it would seem. (For one, boys eat. They eat and eat and never worry about weight. Does anyone else gain weight as a result of their bf?! This boy put 5lbs on me immediately! LOL So NOT cool!!)

I am certainly not complaining, I am beyond happy he is back, but bear with me as I try to find balance (and lose 5lbs! ha!)

This is an outfit I wore last week when LA was having the annual winter heat wave. Right around January every year we get an Indian summer where temps climb to 80 and we all get spring fever. This necklace was a DIY I made over the holidays. I got the idea from a popular blog and I will be sharing more on that in a separate post. :)

I know, I know, I’ve been seriously M.I.A….This is probably the longest blog hiatus I have ever taken over the three years I have been blogging (three years?!) You have all been really supportive with my taking time to reconnect with the boy sans Iraq, which was definitely needed! I am back though, ready to take on this new year, new adventure and new life.

Speaking of which, today is my birthday! It rarely happens when one’s birthday falls on a Friday and I am so excited to be able to celebrate on the actual day. Today’s Itinerary? Blow out appointment (!) Shopping with Mel, and big birthday party tonight with my amazing friends! Birthday’s are so fun aren’t they? An excuse to celebrate yourself, pamper yourself and show yourself some appreciation for the great things you do all year long….so today, YAAY to me! (and Monday, back to the grind)
