Living Room Makeover | Room Tour

This room has been a long time work in progress since my move 16 months ago.

It is such a typical thing to move and want to decorate everything right away, settling on pieces and items you don’t really love just so a room feels finished. Then a few months down the line, you feel like you want to change everything! (I know you guys feel me on this!)

It has happened to me so many times over the years, so when I moved this time, I decided I wanted to do things differently. I had a clear vision of how I wanted the room to look and feel, and I went piece by piece until I achieved what I wanted.

I won’t lie, having an unfinished room for an extended amount of time can be painful, (it tested my OCD that’s for sure!) but the cost of furniture can add up, particularly if you are furnishing an entire house.

I moved from a one bedroom to a two bedroom so I could have a home office space and that meant quite a bit more decorating needed to happen.

You can see my bedroom, bathroom and first office tour (this is outdated but I have an updated one coming soon) as well as my patio makeover.

Ok, so onto the details!

I wanted the room to have a neutral base with cream, gray and gold. I did this with the couch, rug, bench, shelving and tables. For my pops of color I added pink and blue with pillows, drapes, paint, flowers and objects. I also used print and texture to add lots of visual interest.

To save on budget, I did a lot of DIY to make lower cost items from ikea like the Besta cabinet, look like custom pieces. You can see my full tutorial and video on that piece HERE.

I also painted the shelving and coffee table using gold spray paint.

Being a renter means, I had limitations on how far I could take things. The tan carpets are the worst thing on earth, but by adding an area rug over them, it helped change the look and feel of the space.

Also, rather than paint, I opted for removable wallpaper to add a touch of sophistication that will be easy to take down when I leave.

I added lots of shiny gold accents, including sequin pillows for a little over the top glam, because….why not! The beauty of playing with pillows is you can change them out whenever you want and completely change the vibe with very low cost.

The icing on the cake was the gorgeous silk drapery, which added another level of sophistication and just pulled the entire room together.
