How to Wear Nautical Stripes without Looking Preppy

Stripe cardi -c-3

When I first saw this cardigan, I loved it. I really never met a stripe I didn’t like (well almost never…) But when I put it on I realized it could go from zero to preppy real quick. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but that is just not my personal style.

So how did I make it work? Simple. Details.

I added several edgy details to the look, including the undone hemmed jeans, textured bag, flat top sunnies and some white pumps. There are other ways you can do this too. A denim skirt with sneakers would also work.

The bottom line is, when you find a piece that may resonate a style that is different from your own, but you are still drawn to it, pair it with pieces that have opposing style details and it will tone it down.
